Wilson Lake
Kansas' clearest reservoir, known for smallmouth bass around its rocky shorelines.

Depth & Structure
About 9,000 acres billed by USACE as the clearest lake in Kansas, maximum depth roughly 65 ft, with steep rocky shores, limestone rock walls, riprap and deep underwater ledges. Smallmouth stack around rocky structure and the state park causeway riprap; striped bass use transition zones at 6-18 ft in spring, 8-25 ft early summer and 20-35 ft later in summer over open water.
Best Lures
Smallmouth: finesse soft plastics, light jigs and plastic worms in natural tones around rock and ledges, plus smaller crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Striped bass: trolling in summer, spoons, blade baits and crankbaits around bait schools, and surface presentations when fall schools push shad against the dam.
Best Baits
Live bait and cut bait are reported among effective striped bass options; smallmouth fishing is artificials primary (finesse plastics/jigs).
Gear to Bring
Medium-light spinning gear, 2500 size reel, 6-10 lb line for finesse smallmouth work in clear water; heavier trolling gear and larger spinning/baitcasting outfits for striped bass on spoons, blade baits and live bait over deep open water.
